A 15 year old girl that have been locked up for 10 years was finally rescued by the Nigerian Police in Darerawa Quarters of Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
Nigerian police in Northern state, Kano on Monday rescue Aisha Jibrin who was locked in a room since she turned 5 years old.
Kano police command says they receive report of the girl situation around 11am local time.
The police spokesperson in the state, Abdullahi Kiyawa, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said:
“The Kano State Police Command wishes to inform members of the general public that on the 19/04/2021 at about 1100hrs, information received revealed that one Aisha Jibrin, ‘f’, 15 years old of Darerawa Quarters, Fagge LGA Kano State was solitarily confined for ten (10) years in a room by her biological parents, one Mohd Jibrin, ‘m’, and Rabi Mohd, ‘f’, of the same address inside their house without proper feeding and health care.
“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, *CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, fsi* raised and instructed a Medical Team and a team of Detectives to proceed to the scene, rescue the victim and arrest the culprits.
“The teams immediately swung in to action. The victim was rescued and rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano and admitted,” Mr Kiyawa said.
Police recounts that the girl was met without any proper feeding or needed healthcare living in a dirty environment when she was rescued.
Presently, the 15 year old is receiving treated at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist hospital.
Meanwhile, police have arrested the 35 year old Rabi Mohammed while the father is currently on the run, according to police.
Last year Kano and other northern Nigerian states witness a rise in such cases in which guardians lock up their wards or children.
Mostly, such acts are being perpetrated by step mothers and other relatives unlike the case of Aisha Jibrin because it is her own biological parents.
Police have hand over the case to the Criminal Investigations Unit and after investigations is concluded, culprits will be sent to court to face justice.
