Health Benefits of Drinking Adequate Water


Water is a natural gift of nature and consumption of adequate water is essential for bodily functions.

Water is inorganic, transparent, tasteless and odorless. It is the main constituent of the earth’s hydrosphere and the fluids of all known living organisms.
According to the Journal of Biological Chemistry,the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery with 31%.

Research has also shown that different people have different percentages of their bodies made up of water.
Babies have the most percentage as they are being born at about 78%. By one year of age, that amount drops to about 65%.

In adult men, about 60% of their bodies are water. In adult women, fat makes up more of the body than men. Hence, they have about 55% of their bodies made of water.

Drinking adequate water helps to keep our bodies hydrated and helps the body overall function.
Below are some of the reasons our body needs water and its benefits;

1 It helps to create saliva

Saliva Is essential for breaking down solid food and for keeping the mouth healthy always. Saliva contains small amounts of electrolytes, mucus, and enzymes.

Water is a main component of saliva and the more you consume water, the more the body will produce enough saliva. Likewise the little you consume water the drier your mouth will be.

Consuming more water will also help in curbing tooth decay.

2 It regulates your body temperature

Drinking lots of water helps in keeping the body hydrated thereby regulating the body temperature.
When you are involved in physical activities and you sweat, it is important you replenish the body by drinking water.
Also, if you find yourself in a hot environment you need to drink more water to avoid dehydration.

3 It helps the digestive system

Drinking enough water helps the digestive system by breaking down the food and also helps to have enough bowel movements.
Constipation is also reduced greatly when you consume enough water.
Likewise, the rate of heartburn and stomach ulcer is reduced with consumption of adequate water.

4 It improves blood oxygen circulation

The blood contains more than 90 percent water, and blood carries oxygen to different parts of the body.
Water carries helpful nutrients and oxygen to the entire body.

5 It boosts the skin health and beauty

Drinking enough water helps to keep the body hydrated and the skin is a huge beneficiary of this.

It Moisturizes the skin, keeps it fresh, soft, glowing and smooth.

The skin will be saved from skin disorders and also saved from premature wrinkling.

6 Water is essential for the kidneys to function and prevent their damage.

The kidneys regulate fluid in the body and Insufficient water can lead to kidney stones and other problems.

If the kidneys do not function properly, waste products and excess fluid can build up inside the body.

Drinking water helps to dissolve minerals and nutrients, making them more accessible to the body. It also helps remove waste products.

7 It lubricates the joints

Cartilage found in joints contains around 80 percent water.
Long term dehydration as a result of low intake of water can reduce the joints shock absorbing ability. This in turn leads to joint pain.

8 Increases Energy & Relieves Fatigue

The brain consists mainly water. Drinking enough of it helps you focus and concentrate better and be more at alert.
