Today, the majority of consumer cars are capable of exceeding 200 km / h and we speak of more than 300 km / h for sports cars.
Hence, the automobile has fascinated man since its very beginnings. The majority of people see it only as a simple means of transport.
While others have a passion for speed, a thirst that seems impossible to quench since cars are getting faster every year.
Speed is therefore a notion that we take for granted in the automotive industry, but before presenting today’s Top 10, I suggest you take a look at the history of speed cars.
Brief etymology of speed cars
We go back to the beginning of the history of the automobile with the Benz-Patent Motorcar 1885. It posted a top speed of 16 km/h and believe me, to go faster on such a machine would have must have been terrifying.
In short, it was LA Jamais Contente, which was the first car to reach the 100 km/h mark, in 1899.
The most impressive of all is that it’s an electric car, therefore, that form of propulsion that car manufacturers have only just started exploring for the last 20 years or so.
In short, the 200 km / h milestone was crossed in 1949 by the JaguarXK120.
Then, it was not until 1984 that the Ferrari 288 GTO surpassed the bar of 300 km / h.
Finally, it was in 2005 that the Bugatti Veyron arrived on the market with a top speed of over 400 km/h.

4 – Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 2021 (489 km/h)
Nothing changes in terms of speed for the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport this year apart from its position in the standings, as it turns out that not one, but three cars have surpassed it this year.

According to the brand’s statements, the Koenigsegg Jesko is capable of reaching a speed of over 531 km/h, which has not yet been officially proven, but the same goes for 508 km / h of the Tuatara.
Nevertheless, Koenigsegg knows what he is talking about when it comes to speed as he holds several records even today.
